Agony Aunts Roxanne And Rita

Roxanne and Rita entered their glass-fronted office to the sound of laughter.

‘Here’s a tough one for you ladies. Good luck.’ Brian left the room still chuckling.

Depositing her diaphanous bag onto the metal filing cabinet, Roxanne hung up her jacket on the coat stand, and started hunting in its pockets. ‘Think I’ve forgotten the desk keys again.’

Rita said, ‘Here. Catch,’ and threw them to her colleague.

‘No!’ Roxanne ducked. Picking them up off the floor, she said, ‘I can’t catch. That’s why England’s Women’s Cricket team turned me down. Their loss, naturally.’ She read the letter their editor had left for them, and rolled her eyes.

Intrigued, Rita took the sheet off her and burst out laughing. ‘Next issue I reckon?’

‘Sure. You scribble a few words and I’ll put the kettle on? Coffee?’ By the time she returned with their drinks and her make-up checked, the drafted response was lying in their top tray, ready for proofing.

The draft reply read:

Dear Lovesick Lizzie,

He clearly doesn't relate to you. Find yourself someone else who appreciates the writing of a seven-year-old girl.

R. & R.

‘Oh to be able to say what we really think!' said Roxanne.
