Plastic Convenience = Dilemma

Writer's picture: Robyn CainRobyn Cain

Over the past couple of years, I’ve had some success in the garden. My fingers are still brown, but when they turn green, I will definitely be crowing about it.

In anticipation of my (growing) gardening expertise, I bought a chest freezer. Sadly, I had to get the smallest because a) I’m small and b) so is my kitchen. You know the type, a loaf of bread, some frozen vegetables, or an author called Robyn Cain, (me), and it’s full. 😊

Freezing food is wonderful. I love digging out leftovers. So, how to store my homegrown fruit, veg and bulk cooked foods?

The plastic containers with lids not only took up too much space but they cracked after a few uses. Foil containers with (sort of) cardboard lids have similar/different problems. And as to plastic bags, they’re brilliant for freezing/cramming food into said white good, but after one use, they add to the mountains of non-recyclable stuff already ruining our planet.

I can’t be alone in this pickle - has anyone found an answer to this problem?
