I've been really reluctant to begin gardening this year. See the picture? That's my dream.
A start has been made. I've brought a bucket full of compost, the trowel and other necessary bits inside, and they are ready for action. Even the seeds I'm planning to sow are are now out of storage. So, what am I waiting for?
As well as a bit more sunshine and warmth, some motivation would be nice. And even assurance that my efforts will have more success than last year.
I did give a few tasty veg away, such as runner beans, to lovely friends, and I plan to grow those again. But it's the squash, coriander, radishes, cauliflower, fennel, asparagus, turnips and kale that I didn't have success with that make me feel 'is it worth it?' I have to use pots for things like tomatoes because my two raised beds, not quite 8' x 4' in size, aren't enough. I don't fancy digging up the flowers.
Anybody else find home growing of fruit and veg hard work and wish they were more green fingered? There's plenty of great videos on YouTube, but I'm finding they're not enough.
Oh, I lost my battle with the caterpillars. They didn't even leave me a 'thank you' note after enjoying the kale etc. So ungrateful!
They are a pain. If you have the patience, smear some chili sauce on the places they favourite. Egg shells around the base to discourage snails and slugs
